The world of voice communications and the world of data communications are merging into a single, unified communications infrastructure that delivers features and applications which enable you to conduct business more effectively and more efficiently.  This new way of communicating is known as IP Telephony, also referred to as Voice over IP (VoIP).

Traditional communications systems consist of phone equipment with “port cards” in a telephone system cabinet in the telephone equipment room with individual wires connected to telephones via a telephone wall jack.

Traditional Hardware

IP Telephony (VoIP) hardware consists of Local Area Network (LAN) switching equipment, voice application servers, gateways and IP endpoints, but most importantly – software applications.  Most businesses already have Ethernet switching (LAN) hardware to connect PC’s, servers and printers together and to the Internet, so IP Telephony is relatively easy to implement as long as you have the right capabilities in your LAN, and the right company to implement the solution.

Although the IP Telephony hardware is more modern and “cleaner” than traditional hardware, it’s the software applications that really matter.  With the right system, and the right team implementing your new voice solution, you will gain efficiency through new capabilities older systems do not provide.   For example – you can use your laptop computer to call people when you are traveling, or working from home.  This technology is known as IP “soft phone”.  It’s an image of your phone on your computer screen with features activated by clicking your mouse instead of pushing buttons on your “hard phone”.  Below is what this IP soft phone looks like on your PC screen:

There are other useful features of the Converged Networks voice solution.  For example - you may want to accept phone calls to your office line on your cell phone, or at least know who is calling.  With the Converged Networks solution, you will be able to do this.  In fact, you can arrange to have your cell phone and your office phone ring simultaneously so you can decide which device you want to take the call on.  If you are on a call and need to leave the office, you can simply touch a button on your office phone and “bridge”” the call to your cell phone.  Likewise, if you are on the way into the office or down the hallway and you get a call on your office line, you can take the call on your cell phone and transition to your office phone when you arrive, without having to end the call and call back.

And with your new Converged Networks system you can get multiple people on the same call from your office phone or your soft phone, and you can schedule conference calls by emailing people with a phone number to call at any given time, using the system as a “conference bridge”.

It is important to have the right Ethernet switch hardware to successfully implement IP Telephony applications.  Click here for more information on the right Ethernet switching hardware for IP Telephony.  You must have certain features such as Quality of Service (QoS) in your Ethernet switches in order to successfully implement IP Telephony.  There are other parameters that are required that your Converged Networks team will discuss with you for a successful IP Telephony implementation.

Messaging is important to any business or government organization.  If you are on the phone or in a meeting, callers need the ability to leave you a voice mail message.  Converged Networks offers leading messaging technology that integrates voice mail with fax and email so you can consolidate all of your messages in one place for easy message management.   “Multi-media” messaging gives you one screen of information for all types of messages allowing you to check those messages in the order of importance.  And if you need to forward the message, you simply forward it.  For example, if a supplier sends you a fax of an order that you need someone else to handle, they could fax it to your direct phone line and you could forward it from your PC to a co-worker.  The fax would show up in your multi-media inbox with an icon of a fax machine next to it so you know it’s a fax.  When you click on it, the fax will be displayed on your PC screen so you don’t have to print it or go to a fax machine to retrieve it.   When you forward it, the person you send it to will see two icons – one of a fax and one of a voice massage so they know it’s a “compound” message.  When they click on it, they see the fax and they hear your voice telling them about it.

Converged Networks offers industry leading contact center technology to help medium to large enterprises improve customer service.  We have systems that will help you maximize your most important asset – your people.  We provide the tools to help you create a branded experience with your customers by providing the same excellent customer experience every time.  Your team will know how many calls you receive along with real time statistics on average speed of answer, how long the oldest call has waited, and how many callers hang up before their calls are answered.

We have the technology to allow your customers to do business with you the way they want to do business.  For example – if a customer wants to fax or email you a purchase order, we can integrate fax and email into your call center to handle those purchase orders with the same care as if your customer called you on the telephone.  And if your customers want to help themselves, we offer systems that allow them to do so by stepping them through the information they want without human intervention using their touchtone keypad.  Banks pioneered this “Interactive Voice Response” (IVR) technology in the 80’s and 90’s so you know it is secure.  Converged Networks offers “off the shelf” IVR solutions as well as custom IVR technology to meet your organization’s specific needs.  This IVR technology “gives data a voice” and allows you to provide data in your computer network to callers over the telephone, getting more done in your business with the same number of people.  When designed properly, some customers prefer doing business this way in lieu of talking with someone.  The key is to have the right partner – like Converged Networks help you design it.

From traditional voice communications to IP Telephony to Messaging to Call Center technology, Converged Networks has the talent and expertise to design the right system for your specific needs.
